The Founders
Tony Seba
Tony Seba is a world-renowned thought leader, Silicon Valley entrepreneur, educator and the author of the Amazon #1 best-selling book Clean Disruption of Energy and Transportation: How Silicon Valley Will Make Oil, Nuclear, Natural Gas, Coal, Electric Utilities and Conventional Cars Obsolete by 2030. Tony’s work focuses on the convergence of technologies, business models, and product innovations that disrupt the world’s major industries. He was an early employee of disruptive companies including Cisco Systems and RSA Data Security. As a speaker he has delivered keynotes for major companies and at global events including Google, J.P. Morgan, CLSA Investors Forum, Intersolar, Davos, COP21 World Climate Summit and the Global Leaders Forum. Tony has taught thousands of entrepreneurs and corporate leaders at Stanford University Continuing Studies. Tony earned a Stanford MBA and a Computer Science and Engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
James Arbib
James Arbib is a London-based investor in technology. He is the founder of Tellus Mater, an independent philanthropic foundation dedicated to exploring the impacts of disruptive technology, and its potential for solving some of the world’s most challenging problems. In addition, Jamie oversees a London-based family office with a diversified portfolio, across all asset classes and a focus on the risks and opportunities of technology disruption. A graduate in History from Trinity College, Cambridge, he has a Masters in Sustainability Leadership also from Cambridge. He is a qualified chartered accountant and worked as an investment analyst covering utilities.
Executive Leadership
Uzair Niazi, Founding Director & Board Member
Uzair Niazi has over 20 years of high-tech industry experience leading product development teams across the globe. He served as Senior Director at Oracle Corporation where he led the development of several successful product lines, scaling each from zero to multi-million dollars in annual revenues, including Oracle's next generation of Fusion cloud-based applications. He was a co-founder and CEO of a competitive intelligence start-up that uses Big Data, Machine Learning, and Predictive Analytics to deliver critical business insights for B2B companies. Uzair is an investor and advisor working with start-ups in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Uzair has a Bachelors degree in Physics with Electronics, a Master’s in Digital Systems Design, and a MBA. He is passionate about innovation, and is the recipient of several software patents.
Richard Gill, CEO
Richard Gill is a technology pioneer, innovator, and serial entrepreneur. After founding his first tech startup in the late 1980s, Richard went on to create leading edge technologies, products and the startups that commercialize them. This included MonStar Labs, a pioneer of digital broadcast automation, Cyberglue an early web innovator in online education, finance, logistics and not-for-profit, Cloud M in public safety, and Blerter, a leader in sports and entertainment logistics. Richard brings to RethinkX a unique set of skills including deep, hands-on technical expertise, the ability to create, build and lead high performance teams, along with decades of global commercialization experience.
Richard is passionate about the potential for the wise application of technology to create better lives and a better world for all. He is also an investor and technology advisor with extensive board governance experience in both the private and public sectors, including as a director at the government-owned Institute for Environmental Science and Research (ESR), Mondiale Health, and numerous startups.
RESEARCH TEAM
Adam Dorr, PhD. Director of Research
Adam Dorr directs our research program and leads our research team. He is an environmental social scientist and technology theorist whose recent RethinkX publications have focused on the disruption of the global energy sector by new energy generation and storage technologies, as well as the implications of the energy, transportation, and food disruptions for climate change. Adam regularly presents RethinkX's work on stage, radio, podcasts, and television and has more than a decade of teaching, lecturing, and public speaking experience. He completed his MS at the University of Michigan's School for the Environment and Sustainability and his PhD at UCLA's Luskin School of Public Affairs.
Bradd Libby, PhD. Research Fellow
Bradd Libby is responsible for our complex systems analysis and modelling. Prior to RethinkX, he spent several years designing and building scientific equipment for use in the Arctic and studying the effects of climate change on industry, agriculture, and cities. He has been professionally involved in using computer simulation, including System Dynamics and Monte Carlo simulation, to understand complex systems for more than two decades. Bradd has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Taylor Hinds, BSc. Research Fellow
Taylor Hinds is leading a range of RethinkX research projects, with a special focus on disruption within the agriculture sector. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of British Columbia, where she completed several work placements in government, non-profit organizations and global research groups covering food security and agriculture, land use and environmental remediation, and environmental policy.
Owen Westfold, PhD. Research Fellow
Owen Westfold brings expertise in mathematical modelling to RethinkX. He is involved in a range of projects, and is particularly interested in the unfolding disruption of energy by solar, wind and batteries and in the disruptive potential of artificial intelligence.
Prior to joining RethinkX, Owen completed a PhD in mathematics at the University of Melbourne.
Alisdair Brotchie, Software Architect
Alisdair Brotchie has designed and developed innovative, mission critical software technologies and products for over 20 years. His work spans industries from agricultural processing automation to water management, public safety, education, and events.
His software applications, such as the hugely popular Auckland City Civil Defence app, Cloud M eLearning system and the Blerter Events platform have been used by hundreds of thousands of users to power their businesses, learn new skills, and keep their families safe. He brings a wealth of diverse experience to RethinkX to guide how we develop our data and research technologies.
